The Texas State Fair will be electric on Saturday. It won’t be an 11 a.m. central time kick but instead at 2:30 p.m., as the move to the SEC meant a better timeslot for the Red River Showdown.
There isn’t a game that means more in college football and the stakes are even higher this year with a clear favorite and an apparent underdog.
The Sooners are that underdog and have a quarterback who has started just one game. He’s added new life to the team and the fanbase. However, on Saturday, Michael Hawkins Jr. will need to elevate his play if Oklahoma is to knock off the No. 1 Texas Longhorns.
With the Sooners off the bye, I think the offense adds some wrinkles to inject life into an otherwise inconsistent passing game.
Oklahoma’s defense will be the reason this team has a chance to win. The Sooners need another inspired performance from a group that has become a ferocious unit. Even getting knocked back early by Auburn, Zac Alley’s unit adjusted and played a terrific fourth quarter to keep the team in the game, ultimately making the play of the game.
This team uses the hype supporting Texas to their advantage, and Seth Littrell adds enough wrinkles to give Oklahoma a shot.
Brenen Thompson scores against his old team, and Jaquaize Pettaway and Taylor Tatum also score. Peyton Bowen brings in a pick, while the Sooners come up big with another 4th down stand. Ultimately, with a chance to win the game for his school, Quinn Ewers is sacked by Ethan Downs as the Sooners stun the Longhorns again.
Oklahoma 27, Texas 23
