We are finally at the point of the season where identities are beginning to form for teams nationwide. No one is a finished product , but Oklahoma is seeking to establish some baselines about who they are this season.
They suffocated SMU defensively in a 28-11 win last week. This week, in their final nonconference game of the regular season, they make the short trip to Tulsa to take on the Golden Hurricane led by former OU offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson.
Let’s not mince words: Oklahoma should win this game comfortably. However, I’m curious as to what we get from this team. Yeah, they beat SMU, but the offense seemed stuck in neutral. It wasn’t horrible, but they didn’t ever really feel like they put their foot on the gas.
In the aftermath of the game, much has been said about the conservative nature of Jeff Lebby’s playcalling last week.
That changes this week, and we see more explosiveness from this offense. [autotag]Dillon Gabriel[/autotag] throws for three touchdowns, one going to [autotag]Jalil Farooq[/autotag]. [autotag]Jovantae Barnes[/autotag] and [autotag]Gavin Sawchuk[/autotag] get some needed carries, with Barnes scoring once.
Defensively, the Sooners collect two interceptions, and Oklahoma holds Tulsa under 250 yards passing.
