You can never assume a shutout or keeping your opponent out of the end zone all day. Especially when you’ve had a run defense that has struggled at times this season and are playing against a team that offers one of the best running backs in the country.
The Notre Dame defense rose to the occasion Saturday by limiting Boston College to just 191 total yards on the day. With one drive accounting for 84 of those yards, the Irish held Boston College to 107 yards the rest of the day, an average of 8.2 yards gained per their 13 other possessions.
Notre Dame was so impressive defensively that Boston College was held to 91 yards fewer total offense than they had been averaging in their run game alone per contest entering Saturday.
Saturday’s domination by Clark Lea’s group against Boston College is a kind reminder to Notre Dame fans to be grateful for Vanderbilt not making a coaching change this off-season.
