No. 12 Kentucky defeats No. 5 Vols in tennis.

The No. 5 Tennessee men’s tennis team dropped a road match against No.12 Kentucky, 4-3, Friday in Lexington.

The Volunteers (17-6, 5-4 SEC) fell in the dual match despite capturing the doubles point.

Tennessee swept both completed doubles matches against the Wildcats (16-6, 7-2).

At No. 1 doubles, UT’s tandem of Pat Harper and Adam Walton, the No. 79 doubles team in the country, defeated Kentucky’s Francois Musitelli and Millen Hurion, 7-6 (4).

At No. 3 doubles, Mark Wallner and Johannus Monday downed Liam Draxl and JJ Mercer, 6-4.

The Vols prevailed in a pair of singles matches as No. 14 Walton defeated Draxl (the No. 30 player in the country) in three sets, 7-6 (1), 6-7 (6), 6-2.

Shunsuke Mitsui also nabbed a three-set win for UT as he defeated No. 95 Musitelli, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5)..
