No. 1 Wisconsin squeaks by Arkansas volleyball in thriller

Arkansas volleyball took No. 1 ranked Wisconsin to five sets, but ultimately came up short in a thrilling match on Wednesday night.

The No. 21 Arkansas Razorbacks showed the volleyball world that they could hang with the elite teams in the country on Wednesday, nearly knocking off No. 1 Wisconsin in five sets.

The two teams split the first two sets before Wisconsin took a 2-1 advantage following the third set. To the Hogs’ credit, they were able to fight back in the fourth and win, 25-22, to force the fifth and final set. The fifth set saw nine lead changes and was very much a back-and-forth affair until the top-ranked Badgers were able narrowly escape in the end with a 15-13 victory.

Wednesday night’s thrilling match marked the first time in school history that the Razorbacks had ever gone to five sets with the No. 1 ranked team in the country.

4,299 fans were in attendance at Barnhill Arena to watch the match, shattering the program’s previous attendance record of 3,015.

Arkansas will have another chance to knock off the Badgers tonight at 7:00 p.m. The match can be seen live on ESPNU.
