No. 1 Tennessee uses 23 players in win against Xavier.

No. 1 Tennessee captured a midweek victory over Xavier Tuesday at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

The Volunteers (38-3, 17-1 SEC) scored six runs in the sixth inning en route to a 10-1 win.

Tennessee scored a run in the first inning against the Musketeers (21-21, 5-4 Big East) when Drew Gilbert had an RBI single.

Cortland Lawson extended UT’s lead to 3-0 in the second inning with a two-run home run. The Vols added another run in the fourth inning when a sacrifice fly by Lawson, who went 1-for-2 with three RBIs, plated Trey Lipscomb.

Tennessee scored six runs in the sixth inning with two outs.

In the inning, Jordan Beck had a two-run double and Logan Steenstra added a scoring single.

Seth Stephenson added an RBI single, while Luc Lipcius and Christian Moore came home when Charlie Taylor reached on an error.

Xavier scored its lone run of the contest in the ninth inning.

Zander Sechrist (4-0) started and pitched 5.1 innings. He surrendered two hits and one walk, while striking out four.

Ben Joyce, Kirby Connell, Grant Cherry, Wyatt Evans, Drew Patterson and Hollis Fanning all appeared in relief for the Vols.
