No. 1 Tennessee suffers its first loss in 2022 at Georgia.

No. 3 Tennessee (8-1, 4-1 SEC) suffered its first loss of the 2022 season at No. 1 Georgia (9-0. 6-0 SEC) Saturday.

Rankings reflect the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll.

The Vols are No. 1 in the College Football Playoff rankings, while Georgia is No. 3.

Georgia defeated Tennessee, 27-13.

The victory gives Georgia sole possession of first place in the SEC East and ends Tennessee’s eight-game win streak.

The Vols scored first in the contest. Chase McGrath converted a 47-yard field goal with 10 minutes, 5 seconds remaining in the first quarter.

McGarath’s field goal was set up when Tamarion McDonald recovered a Bulldogs’ fumble.

Georgia then scored 21 unanswered points.

Quarterback Stetson Bennett’s 18-yard scoring run and two passing touchdowns passes gave the Bulldogs a 21-3 lead.

McGrath converted a 36-yard field in the second quarter to pull Tennessee within 21-6.

Georgia’s Jack Podlesny converted a 19-yard field goal on the final play of the first half to give Georgia a 24-6 lead at halftime.

Georgia scored the only points in the third quarter, converting a 38-yard field goal by Podlesny.

Jaylen Wright scored on a 5-yard rushing touchdown with 4:15 remaining in the game.
