No. 1 Tennessee baseball sets program record with 17 consecutive wins.

No. 1 Tennessee (25-1, 7-0 SEC) notched its 17th consecutive victory Friday, defeating Vanderbilt, 6-2, at Hawkins Field in Nashville.

The Vols never trailed against No. 5 Vanderbilt.

Tennessee opened a 2-0 lead in the second inning when Luc Lipcius hit a two-run home run off Chris McElvain. McElvain suffered his first loss of the season.

The Commodores (20-5, 4-3 SEC) pulled to within 2-1, in the third inning when Davis Diaz drove in a run with a groundout.

Tennessee scored four runs in in the fifth inning as Jordan Beck had a two-run double. Trey Lipscomb added an RBI triple and later scored on a wild pitch. Lipscomb went 1-for-3 with two runs and was hit by a pitch.

The Commodores scored in the fifth inning when Carter Young recorded an RBI single.

Chase Burns improved to 6-0. He pitched 5.1 innings, surrendering two runs, five hits and one walk, while striking out seven.

Tennessee’s bullpen held Vanderbilt scoreless as Will Mabrey, Kirby Connell and Camden Sewell appeared in relief for the Vols.
