Georgia rolled past Tennessee to keep its perfect record intact Saturday at Neyland Stadium.
The No. 1 Bulldogs notched a 41-17 victory over the Volunteers, spoiling homecoming on Rocky Top, but UT’s offensive output represents the most points against Georgia (10-0, 8-0 SEC) has given up all season.
The Vols (5-5, 3-4 SEC) again darted off to a fast start and opened a 10-7 lead before the the Bulldogs scored the next 34 points of the contest.
Tennessee scored first when quarterback Hendon Hooker connected with Velus Jones Jr. on a 9-yard touchdown pass with 11 minutes, 43 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
The Bulldogs pulled even a short time later when James Cook scored on a 29-yard touchdown scamper.
Cook had his best game of the season as he amassed 104 yards and two scores on just 10 carries. He also caught a 23-yard touchdown pass to give the Bulldogs the 24-10 advantage they enjoyed at halftime.
The Vols took a 10-7 lead with 1:38 remaining in the opening frame when Chase McGrath kicked a 24-yard field goal.
Georgia then scored 17 unanswered points in the second quarter as Jack Podlesney had a 40-yard field goal and Stetson Bennett IV had a 9-yard scoring dash before connecting with with Cook to close out the scoring in the first half.
Podlesney’s 26-yard field goal late in the third quarter extended the Bulldogs’ advantage to 27-10.
In the final frame, Cook had a 3-yard scoring run and Kenny McIntosh added another touchdown on the ground to make it 41-10.
The Vols scored late when backup quarterback Joe Milton III had a touchdown pass to Cedric Tillman, who finished the contest with 200 receiving yards on 10 catches.
