Nintendo moves Xenoblade Chronicles 3’s release date forward

The JRPG epic from Monolith Software is coming out in July.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is coming out on July 29, 2022, two months earlier than expected.

On Tuesday, Nintendo announced that the highly-anticipated JRPG is no longer coming out in September. There wasn’t a hard release date before this, but the original launch window was supposed to be sometime this fall. Nintendo didn’t elaborate on the release date shift. Who cares, though — for once, let’s just enjoy that a game is coming out sooner rather than later.

A brand new trailer for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 coincided with the announcement too. Low and behold, it looks beautiful! It’s certainly pushing the aging Nintendo Switch hardware to the limit, from the looks of things.

There are many great RPGs on the Nintendo Switch, and Xenoblade Chronicles certainly stands shoulder to shoulder with the likes of Fire Emblem and Pokémon. GLHF’s Dave Aubrey recently argued that Xenoblade Chronicles significantly influenced Pokémon Legends: Arceus, even.

It’s been an excellent few months for JRPGs in general, especially with that brilliant remaster of Chrono Cross. So if you need something to tide yourself over until Xenoblade Chronicles 3 releases, check it out!
