Nintendo believes Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is worth $70

“The price point reflects the type of experience that fans can expect,” says company president Doug Bowser.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be well worth its retail price of $70, according to Nintendo president Doug Bowser.

Over the past few months, publishers like Ubisoft, Sony, and Microsoft have begun selling AAA titles at $70 rather than the traditional $60 – leaving many to wonder if Nintendo would follow suit. Well, the company is doing precisely that with certain games now.

During an interview with the Associated Press, Bowser spoke on the somewhat price hike for Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – suggesting that not every title Nintendo releases will start at $70.

“We look at what [Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom] has to offer. I think fans will find this is an incredibly full, deeply immersive experience,” Bowser said. “The price point reflects the type of experience that fans can expect when it comes to playing this particular game.”

“This isn’t a price point that we’ll necessarily have on all our titles,” Bowser continues. “It’s actually a fairly common pricing model either here or in Europe or other parts of the world, where the pricing may vary depending on the game itself.”

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom comes out for the Nintendo Switch on May 12, 2023. If you’d like to catch up on the series ahead of time, check out our Zelda series where-to-play guide.
