Nintendo announces Sports Story release frame in Indie World trailer

Three years after the Golf Story sequel’s reveal, Nintendo announced a Sports Story release date timeframe during the latest Indie World

Three years after Sidebar Games and Nintendo announced a Golf Story sequel was in the works, we finally have a Sports Story release date. Well, sort of. Nintendo announced during the latest Indie World presentation that Sports Story will release in December 2022, but didn’t provide a specific date for the indie game just yet.

A shiny new Sports Story trailer accompanied the release frame announcement, teasing a bit of what to expect from the sports game, and it sounds like there’s much more going on than just a game of soccer in the upcoming Switch game. Where the original game centered on golf – hence the name – Sports Story includes tennis, soccer, and even cricket matches, and, of course, some time on the greens for those who don’t want to give up the clubs just yet.

When you aren’t playing a sport, you’ll be investigating haunted mansions filled with goats, dabbling in a bit of spy work, catching a train, dealing with pirates, and trudging through old-fashioned Western towns complete with cowfolks, before taking a shopping trip at a retro-style mall. Why? At this point, the answer is anyone’s question, but it seems evident that Sports Story is an unorthodox sequel, to say the least.

So far, Sports Story is only coming to Nintendo Switch, similar to Golf Story. No plans for launch on other platforms have been announced.
