Nico Hulkenberg says Haas ‘needs updates’ after summer break

Haas is currently eighth place in the constructors standings and only two points ahead of ninth-place Alfa Romeo.

Haas has done a decent job in qualifying so far in 2023, but the race pace simply hasn’t been there for the American team — and driver [autotag]Nico Hulkenburg[/autotag] hopes to sort that out when Formula 1 returns from its summer break.

Hulkenberg told Belgian media after the grand prix weekend in Spa that he believes the team is very much in need of some updates by the time the Dutch Grand Prix rolls around in Zandvoort. Haas is currenrly eighth in the constructors championship, just two points out from Alfa Romeo in ninth.

“To solve the problem and increase performance, you can’t find the solution on the street – it’s a bit more complex,” Hulkenburg said, “What we really need are some updates, some real performance, to help us.”

As it stands, the 11 points that Haas has is level with Williams, who are one spot ahead in the championship based on race results. The effort to jump ahead of them likely would start with upgrades, but Hulkenberg stated that he knows it will be a while before Haas can make a truly big jump with its performance.

“I think this year we can improve the situation,” Hulkenberg said. “But it’s a long-term thing, for sure.”
