Nick Sirianni says Eagles dealt with Canadian wildfire smoke as just another adjustment

Nick Sirianni says the Philadelphia Eagles handled the Canadian wildfire smoke as just another weather adjustment and moved OTAs indoors.

While an orange, dusky sky at 4:00 p.m. would otherwise be apocalyptic, it turns out to be harmless — at least aesthetically speaking.

As the smoke from the Canadian wildfires continue to move throughout the eastern portion of the United States, some NFL teams have had to deal with the air quality issues.

The Philadelphia Eagles held the last day of their organized team activities indoors at NovaCare Complex Thursday. Coach Nick Sirianni told reporters that the move indoors was comparable to an in-season adjustment.

“If you’re playing in Dallas and it’s a snowstorm outside or super windy, we might not go out there,” Sirianni said.

The ability to handle variables is part of life in the NFL, according to Sirianni.

“This isn’t new to us,” said Sirianni. “You handle adjustments, and even if it was new to us, this is the life of the NFL. You handle adjustments, and this is what it is. You can’t go outside today and work out. So, we’ll be inside. That’s just the way it is.”

In Major League Baseball, the New York Yankees and Chicago White Sox had their Wednesday game at Yankees Stadium postponed to Thursday, and the Philadelphia Phillies similarly had their home tilt with the Detroit Tigers adjusted for a Thursday first pitch.

“With the baseball games getting canceled and everything, again, we have the number of when we can be outside, when we can’t be outside,” Sirianni said. “Our trainers and doctors do a phenomenal job of giving us the information, and obviously today it’s an indoor practice. But it’s business as usual. This is not new to us.”

The WNBA also had a Wednesday game postponed between the Minnesota Lynx and New York Liberty, who were set to play Thursday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. No makeup date has been announced.
