Penn State running back [autotag]Nick Singleton[/autotag] is ready to once again be one of the best players in Penn State’s offense. And his ability to return kickoffs makes him one of the most versatile players on Penn State’s roster. And because of that, Singleton is on the watch list for the Paul Hornung Award.
The Paul Hornung Award is presented to college football’s most versatile player, which respects players who do more than play one position all the time. Singleton is mostly known for being one of Penn State’s top running backs, but he has been utilized on special teams previously. That could happen again in 2024.
Singleton had 26 catches for 308 receiving yards in addition to his 752 rushing yards. He combined for 10 offensive touchdowns. He also returned 13 kickoffs for 313 return yards, and he returned one kickoff for a touchdown in 2022 as a true freshman.
The Paul Hornung Award was first presented in 2010 to Stanford two-way player Owen Marecic. Penn State’s Saquon Barkley won the award in 2017, recognizing Barkley for his skills as a running back and kickoff returner. He is Penn State’s only Hornung Award winner in program history.
Other notable past winners of the Hornungg Award include DeVonta Smith (Alabama, 2020), Rondale Moore (Purdue, 2018), and Christian McCaffrey (Stanford, 2015).
Singleton has also appeared on the watch list for the Maxwell Award, the player of the year award from the Maxwell Football Club. Singleton is also one of our top 25 players on the Penn State roster in 2024.
