Penn State running back [autotag]Nick Singleton[/autotag] has added another watch list to his profile heading into the 2023 season, and there will be more to come in the next week. Singleton was named to this year’s watch list for the Paul Hornung Award by the Louisville Sports Commission.
The Paul Hornung Award is presented to college football’s most versatile college football player. And after just one season, it is easy to see why Singleton was included on this year’s watch list for the award.
Singleton is coming off a brilliant freshman season for the Nittany Lions. The former Gatorade High School Football Player of the Year set a Penn State freshman record with 12 rushing touchdowns and rushed for 1,061 yards. Singleton was the third freshman in Penn State history to rush for 1,000 yards in a season. He also returned 14 kickoffs for 349 yards and a touchdown.

The Paul Hornung Award has been presented annually since 2010 when Stanford’s Owen Marecic won the inaugural award. Penn State does have one Paul Hornung Award winner in school history. [autotag]Saquon Barkley[/autotag] won the award in 2017.
The last Big Ten player to win the award was Purdue wide receiver Rondale Moore. Last season’s recipient of the award was Oregon State’s Jack Coletto.
Other notable past winners of the Paul Horning Award include Odell Beckham Jr. (LSU, 2013), Christian McCaffrey (Stanford, 2015), and DeVonta Smith (Alabama, 2020).
Singleton has also been named to the Maxwell Award watch list by the Maxwell Football Club. Singleton will be a lock to appear on the Doak Walker Award watch list for the nation’s top running back award.
