Nick Saban was Kirby Smart’s kryptonite the numbers show

Without Nick Saban, can anyone slow down the Georgia Bulldogs?

The Georgia Bulldogs are looking to build the next college football dynasty. They have won two of the last three national championships and came close to competing for a third straight title in 2023. The only problem, former Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban wasn’t having it.

UGA fell to the Tide in the SEC championship game sending Alabama to the College Football Playoffs and the Dawgs were off to the Orange Bowl to face Florida State.

When it came to his former mentor, Kirby Smart couldn’t beat Nick Saban consistently. His lone win was a huge one. It came in the 2021 College Football Playoff national championship but failed to earn a victory against him any other time.

Nick Saban showed why he is one of the best college football coaches of all time not just because of his seven national championships. Check out his numbers against Kirby Smart and Georgia.

  • Nick Saban is 5-1 against the Bulldogs with the only loss coming in the 2021 national championship.
  • Alabama scored an average of 31.3 points and allowed 26 points per game.

Breaking down Kirby Smart against everyone else is staggering.

  • Georgia is 93-11 against the rest of the field. The Bulldogs have lost no games in the last three years against non-Nick Saban-coached teams.
  • Georgia has scored an average of 35.7 points per game and only allowed 15.3 points.
  • Dan Mullen is the last head coach not named Saban to beat Smart. It happened in 2020, 44-28.
