Alabama football began the offseason with a big question that needed an answer. With the spring game in the books, not only do we not have any answers, but it also grew far more confusing. The Crimson Tide quarterback situation for 2023 is unique.
After years of having clear-cut quality starters, Nick Saban entered the offseason saying goodbye to Heisman-winner Bryce Young and saying hello to a QB battle between junior Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson.
In the early parts of the offseason, no one was quite sure which of the two had the upper hand. The A-Day spring game didn’t offer any answers. Both quarterbacks played well, but not spectacularly.
Saban landed a commitment on Thursday morning from Notre Dame transfer quarterback Tyler Buchner. The move throws a wrench into the ongoing QB battle, which apparently wasn’t going all too well.
On ESPN’s “College GameDay” ahead of the 2023 NFL draft, Saban spoke on the decision to bring Buchner in.
“We wanted to give our quarterbacks in our program every opportunity to win the job in spring practice,” Saban said. “We felt like we needed to add some competition in the room.”
Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow the QB position and Alabama football overall as the 2023 offseason progresses.
