Nick Saban knows a thing or two about the NFL and quarterbacks.
So when Nick Saban, Alabama Crimson Tide mastermind, says likely Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow will have a successful NFL career, it’s wise to pay attention.
Saban appeared on Detail for ESPN and noted what many experts do about Burrow — mobility. Here’s what he said, courtesy of ESPN’s Ben Baby:
“I think Joe Burrow’s got great vision, does a good job with pre-snap reads and knowing where he’s going to go with the ball. He also can extend plays [and] scramble to throw, which I think is really, really important and puts a lot of pressure on the defense. So Joe Burrow’s going to have a fantastic career in the NFL.”
Saban isn’t the first notable person to point out Burrow’s mobility and awareness to get out of the pocket and extend plays is a huge boon for his pro potential.
Doing so smartly, with accuracy and generally taking care of the football is an element to a Zac Taylor-led offense we’ve yet to see. This trait not only frees up the playcalling a bit and potentially keeps more drives alive, it could help compensate for what is still very much a rebuilding offensive line.
Count Saban among those who see “it” with Burrow in some fashion. Taylor commented yesterday that the fact so many want to make a big trade up for Burrow only reinforces their belief in him. A nod from Saban sure doesn’t hurt.
