Philadelphia 76ers coach Nick Nurse provides an update on injured forward Kelly Oubre Jr.

CAMDEN, N.J. — Philadelphia 76ers forward Kelly Oubre Jr. continues to recover from a rib fracture he suffered when struck by a vehicle on Nov. 11. The veteran forward has missed eight games, but he has been back at practice.

The Sixers returned to the practice court on Sunday after a Saturday road win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. While Oubre was not exactly a participant, he was able to do something on the floor. That is a good sign for coach Nick Nurse.

“Kelly was with the team today,” Nurse said after practice on Sunday. “We did do a few drills. Not a lot. He continues to progress a little bit, but he was out there.”

Nurse revealed that there wasn’t any real contact stuff on Sunday for Oubre to be involved in. The key for the veteran out of Kansas is his progression.

“No,” Nurse added. “He was in a little bit more of the five-on-zero stuff. So he was able to handle those OK.”

On Nov. 21, the Sixers said Oubre would be reevaluated in approximately one week. With that time coming soon, Nurse was asked if he anticipates Oubre’s return sooner rather than later.

“I think we’re probably a little ways away,” Nurse stated. “So probably rather than later.”

The Sixers will host the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday before heading on the road to face the New Orleans Pelicans and then the Boston Celtics.
