Toronto Raptors head coach Nick Nurse said rookie Malachi Flynn will start on Monday versus the Washington Wizards if Fred VanVleet cannot play due to injury.
The Raptors have listed VanVleet as questionable to play versus the Wizards with a left hip injury. He suffered the injury on Friday versus the Golden State Warriors in the third quarter and would not return to the Raptors’ 53-point victory.
The injury to VanVleet is not believed to be serious, but Flynn would be in line to earn his first career start should VanVleet need to sit during the contest, according to Aaron Rose of Sports Illustrated.

Flynn is coming off of his best performance of the season after scoring a career-high 16 points against the Warriors. The outing was just his second of the season in double figures after playing sparingly throughout much of the year.
