Nick Nurse addresses Tyrese Maxey’s mild concussion, absence vs. Nets

Philadelphia 76ers coach Nick Nurse addresses Tyrese Macey’s concussion and his absence against the Brooklyn Nets.

NEW YORK — The Philadelphia 76ers will take on the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday without the services of All-Star guard Tyrese Maxey.

Maxey was ruled out for this contest against the Nets due to concussion-like symptoms. Maxey suffered a head injury in Philadelphia’s win over the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday. He left the game briefly before he was cleared to return and finish the win, but coach Nick Nurse said doctors noticed the concussion issues on Tuesday.

“I think that’s what they said, it was a delayed mild concussion,” said Nurse on Tuesday. “I’m not a doctor, but that’s what they told me. It’s a delayed mild concussion. I don’t know, they really didn’t see the symptoms right away and then he wakes up the next day and they’re there.”

While he has been ruled out for this contest against the Nets, one has to wonder about his status for Wednesday’s contest with the Memphis Grizzlies. Considering it’s a concussion, Maxey likely will miss the matchup with Memphis as well.

“We certainly talked to the league and he has to clear the, I think it’s a four- or five-step protocol process, so I would assume that he’s gonna be out tomorrow,” Nurse added. “We’re not rushing it. This kind of stuff you can’t rush. You don’t rush and he’s gotta meet all the steps to get to return to play.”

One has to hope Maxey will recover quickly and return to the floor. Until then, Philadelphia will allow him to make a full recovery.
