Nearly everyone around the Cleveland Browns expects Nick Chubb to play against the Houston Texans on Sunday at FirstEnergy Stadium, but the Pro Bowl running back’s status remains up in the air. The Browns have yet to activate Chubb from the injured reserve list even after Friday’s practice.
The club has designated Chubb for return, but he remains on the injured list entering the Week 10 weekend. That status could change on Saturday, after the team and Chubb see how he feels after practicing throughout the week.
“We wanted to use each one of these days to see how he responded each day,” coach Kevin Stefanski said after Friday’s final practice session. “He hit all the benchmarks, so it’s just a matter of making sure we’re all on the same page in making sure that he’s ready to go. If he’s ready, he’ll be out there. And if we feel like he’s not ready this week, then we’ll make that decision.”
The Browns have an opening on the active roster after offensive lineman Chris Hubbard was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Friday. They have not signed anyone else to take Hubbard’s spot as of press time, presumably keeping a spot open for Chubb.
