Every year the NFLPA comes out with a list of the young players most poised to take the proverbial next step and become breakout stars. Sitting at the top of the 2020 edition of the player’s union’s Rising Stars is Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb.
Chubb edged out Packers RB Aaron Jones, Seahawks WR D.K. Metcalf and Ravens WR Marquise Brown to top the list of returning players. The NFLPA divides the rising star list into returning veterans and rookie categories.
It’s a strong endorsement for Chubb, now entering his third season. From the NFLPA’s description of the Rising Stars program,
The yearly list from the NFLPA, via its marketing and licensing arm, NFL Players Inc., aims to identify players poised to have an impact on consumer sales and eventually rank among the top sellers of officially licensed, player-identified merchandise in the new season.
Chubb meets the qualification of never having been in the top-50 of any NFLPA sales figure in any period. Expect to see a lot of hype surrounding Chubb nad more than a few No. 24 jerseys in the new brown, white and orange Browns uniforms flying off the racks in 2020.
