NFL world reacts to Tony Romo’s massive new deal with CBS

Tony Romo just became the highest-paid NFL announcer ever.

Tony Romo entered the 2020 NFL offseason as the hottest commodity in sports broadcasting, as his contract with CBS ended after the 2019 season, and ESPN was expected to offer Romo a colossal deal to lure him away from the CBS booth. Romo will remain alongside Jim Nantz for years to come, though, after reportedly signing a long term deal with the network worth a cool $17 million per year.

According to a report by the New York Post, Romo’s new deal is “for significantly more than five years,” which means that Romo will likely surpass his earnings as an NFL player with his earnings as an NFL broadcaster by the time the new deal expires. As a player, Romo only ever made more than $17 million in three of his 14 NFL seasons, and made $127 million in total, according to Spotrac.
