Thursday Night Football is over. Monday Night Football is ready for hibernation. That can only mean one thing.
The 2021 NFL regular season is barreling toward its final stops en route to its playoff terminus. 14 teams will have their trips extended, each united by the dream of a Super Bowl 56 appearance in Los Angeles. The paths they’ve taken just to spot that dancing mirage on the horizon of an 18-week season have all been different.
Some have traveled in relative comfort. Others have rattled through detours and breakdowns in vessels held together by duct tape and trick plays. A select few only made it a couple weeks before running out of fuel entirely.
While this means the postseason inches closer, it also means we’re down to two final weeks of 16-game football slates to gorge on before the lean times of late January and February set upon us. Week 17 isn’t set to be a lineup of barnburners — it’s more like that random Saturday toward the end of November where all the good SEC teams play Samford or Western Carolina or Vanderbilt. There isn’t a single game where the spread is fewer than 3.5 points. Four games have a spread of at least 12.
This could all lead to a very lopsided Sunday. But hey, it’s football, and we must appreciate it while we have it. Soon we’ll have to settle for watching college seniors run real fast and hit the bench press to get our gridiron fix.
Let’s talk about it. All odds via Tipico.
