The NFL is expected to expand the regular season schedule this week to 17 games, per Adam Schefter.
With this 17th game being the major change, there are also expected to make some other changes. There will be 17 games in 18 weekends. There will not be an extra bye week. Week 1 will be on September 12 while Super Bowl Sunday will take place on February 13.
In addition to those changes, Wild Card Weekend will also look different. There will be two games on Saturday, January 15, which is customary. On Sunday, January 16, there will be three games. Perhaps the most notable change is that there will be a game on Monday night.
other reported changes with a 17th game:
– no extra bye: 17 games in 18 weekends
– Sunday week 1: September 12th
– Final Sunday of season: January 9th
– Super Bowl Sunday: February 13th– Wild Card Weekend:
— 2 games Sat Jan 15th
— 3 games Sun Jan 16th
— 1 game Mon Jan 17th— Warren Sharp (@SharpFootball) March 28, 2021
This is all assuming the vote goes through. The landscape of the NFL schedule would certainly look different. It will be interesting to see the vote goes through, and how the negotiations play out.
