NFL to stream playoff game exclusively on Peacock

As the world continues to shift towards streaming, the NFL is starting to follow

These days it feels like the whole world is transitioning to streaming, and the NFL is certainly following this trend. On Monday afternoon it was announced NBC streaming platform, Peacock, is going to receive rights to exclusively stream an NFL playoff game.

Although this will mark the first time a streaming platform will have exclusive broadcast rights to a single NFL playoff game, it doesn’t take a clairvoyant to predict it won’t be the last.

The league has been shifting more of its content to streaming services, such as giving Amazon Prime exclusive rights to Thursday Night Football. Just this offseason, the NFL Sunday Ticket Package will be leaving DirecTV – its exclusive home from 1994-2023 – and be headed online to YouTube TV.

Now, NBC becomes the first of the major networks to get some exclusivity with their streaming platforms. But as I said, I doubt it will stay this way for long. CBS has been active with their streaming platform, Paramount +, and I imagine FOX Sports will likely push for something similar in the not too distant future either.
