The Arizona Cardinals could see an international game fairly soon. The NFL announced that owners voted to increase the number of international games to as many as eight beginning in 2025.
The Cardinals were part of the first international regular-season game in 2005 in Mexico City and have played in two of the other 49 international games the league has had, playing in London in 2017 and last season in Mexico City.
The league had games in England and Germany.
Next year, there will be a game in Sao Paulo, Brazil, the first ever in South America.
Under the new decision, no team would be required to play more than one international game in a season unless they elected to.
If selected to play internationally, a team can choose two games on its schedule that are not eligible to be played abroad.
Since the Cardinals and 49ers opened international play in 2005, 36 of the 50 international games have been in London, followed by six in Toronto, five in Mexico City, two in Frankfurt and one in Munich.
