The wide receiver position is circled by some in western New York when thinking ahead to the 2023 NFL draft.
But are they overrating the class?
Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy notes that his league sources tell him that there are not many clubs that rate this draft class of wideouts very highly:
One thing has become clear on calls around league past couple weeks: NFL isn’t nearly as high on this year’s WR class as media.
Frequently seeing 4-5 wideouts in mocks. Have spoken to numerous teams that have only one first round grade at the position. That guy is JSN.

Relating to the Bills, this could be good news. If Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane does have his eye on a receiver when it comes to the team’s first-round pick at No. 27, he could have the best possible option.
By “JSN,” Nagy is referring to Ohio State’s Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Even if Smith-Njigba is off the board when the Bills are on the clock, that could leave others, such as USC’s Jordan Addison or Boston College’s Zay Flowers, still there for the taking if other teams don’t rate them highly as Nagy suggests.
Nagy’s comment could also mean Buffalo is among the teams that don’t rate this wideout class highly. But there is at least some interest from the Bills in them because it’s been reported that Addison and Flowers both have pre-draft visits in Buffalo. Both are projected to be Round 1 or 2 selections.
Receiver is often one of the most-watched positions during the opening round from of the draft each year. Considering the Bills’ needs and Nagy’s suggestion, following the wideouts during Round 1 could get interesting,
