The North Carolina Tar Heels made arguably the biggest splash in the college football offseason when they hired Bill Belichick to be the next head coach of the football program. After a year off from the game, Belichick agreed to be the coach in December.
But now, NFL teams reportedly haven’t given up hope on a potential return as early as 2025.
Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network reported on Wednesday that NFL teams have gauged the interest of Belichick to make a return despite being the coach of North Carolina. And one name stands out the most. The Las Vegas Raiders.
Per Pelissero, Tom Brady has spoken to Belichick about what it would take for him to reunite in Las Vegas. Brady is a minority owner of the Raiders.
Multiple NFL teams have inquired about whether legendary coach Bill Belichick would reconsider his move to college football — including the Las Vegas Raiders, whose new minority owner Tom Brady spoke recently with his old coach about what it would take to make a reunion happen in Las Vegas, per sources.
The Raiders just fired Antonio Pierce, leaving an open head coaching job and with Brady’s ties to Belichick, you can see why he made the call. Belichick does have a $10M buyout before June 1st, and that goes down to $1M after that date.
That’s something that has worried some at UNC when the ink was dry on the contract per Pelissero.
However, Bill has been busy on the recruiting trail trying to improve North Carolina’s roster for the upcoming season. He has yet to make a statement on these rumors.
