There are no shortage of opinions on the Miami Dolphins’ decision to make a change at quarterback. Sitting at 3-3 and with all of the team’s goals this season sitting ahead of them, changing quarterbacks from the beloved Ryan Fitzpatrick to rookie QB Tua Tagovailoa offers a fascinating turn for this Dolphins team. Will Miami click right away with their young quarterback? If not, what implications might there be?
These are all hard questions and help explain the vast array of opinions on if Brian Flores is doing the right thing or not. Ultimately, the only opinion on the matter that holds weight is Flores’ himself — and the decision is done. But now that the swap is made, some of the newer opinions on the matter are coming from fascinating places; including a defensive star whose team just caught a good look at Ryan Fitzpatrick a few weeks back.
San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman seems destined for a career in media when his playing days are done if his latest work on The Chris Collinsworth Podcast is any indication. Conveniently enough, the two spoke on Tagovailoa — and Sherman outlined the potential risk of the decision.

It is hard to envision Brian Flores losing this locker room at this point in time, given just how far this team has come — even if there are struggles with the quarterback transition. But Sherman does bring up a fair point in that the door will be opened for questions if Miami starts slow out of the bye week. In a perfect world, Miami comes out red hot with new concepts on offense and is able to silence the questioning and slam the door shut on potential criticism. It will all come down to the execution for the Dolphins.
If Tagovailoa operates at a high level early on, Miami may be setting course for the postseason. If there are rookie struggles? Well, let’s hope there aren’t.
