The NFL announced Sunday that the league will have a salary cap of $198.2 million for each team in 2020. NFL teams that did not use all of their salary cap space in 2019 are allowed to roll over their unused cap, so some teams could have salary caps well over $200 million this fall.
The Denver Broncos are projected to have a salary cap worth around $210,882,781, according to Spotrac.com. After subtracting the team’s active contracts ($177,952,779), Spotrac estimates that the team has a little more than $38.8 million in remaining salary cap space.
That number accounts for safety Justin Simmons playing on a one-year franchise tag and it also includes the contract of cornerback A.J. Bouye, who will be officially traded to the Broncos on Wednesday.
If Denver moves on from quarterback Joe Flacco as expected, the Broncos’ cap number could increase by a little more than $10 million. Flacco has to recover from his neck injury before Denver can release him.
Broncos general manager John Elway can begin negotiating with NFL free agents beginning at 12:00 p.m. MT on Monday, March 16.
