North Carolina football fans may have been on edge for a few hours on Wednesday when Tom Pelissero reported that Tom Brady had reached out to Bill Belichick, inquiring about a potential return to the NFL.
The news broke late on Wednesday morning and the instant tie to Brady made the Raiders a fit IF Belichick ever wanted to leave. However, hours later The Athletic’s Dianna Russini calmed those nerves with her report.
Russini reported that “Bill Belichick has no plans to return to the NFL, per sources. I’m told his sole focus is on coaching and recruiting for North Carolina, as he continues building the Tar Heels’ future. He’s recruiting today in New Jersey.”
Okay, whew.
Not that the Raiders rumors were anything to take very serious at the moment, but we’d be lying if we said there wasn’t at least a little panic after hearing that.

Belichick does seem to be committed to UNC despite having a $10M buyout going down to $1M after June 1st, something in his contract that was eye-popping when first reported.
However, Belichick is out recruiting right now hoping to build up UNC’s roster for the future. He also made a significant hire on Wednesday as well to add to his staff.
