The Baltimore Ravens will attempt to handle their own business in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs. But with the AFC Championship Game up next, Baltimore will be paying attention to the television on Sunday to figure out who their opponent will be.
That means watching the Kansas City Chiefs hosting the Houston Texans in the divisional round on Sunday. And with Baltimore having seen both teams earlier in the regular season, the Ravens know what they’ll need to do to win and head off to Super Bowl LIV.
However, for us, one of these teams is a far easier matchup than the other. So, let’s dig into which team fans should be rooting for this weekend.
Houston Texans (No. 4 seed) at Kansas City Chiefs (No. 2 seed)
Rooting for: Texans
This one is pretty simple in reality. Out of Houston and Kansas City, Baltimore has beaten only the Texans. While it would be nice to get some revenge on the Chiefs for their win over the Ravens back in Week 3, the easiest path forward is the preference here. And the level to which Baltimore beat the Texans (41-7 in Week 11) certainly makes them the obvious choice to face in the AFC Championship Game.
Even now, the Ravens just match up better against Houston. For one, they’ll have been through one extra game in the postseason, potentially making them more tired and prone to mistakes than the fresher Chiefs. Add in a questionable offensive line and a passing attack that really goes through DeAndre Hopkins and Houston is a far less dynamic team than Kansas City.
Any opponent in the AFC Championship Game would deserve to be there and won’t be an easy matchup. But given their earlier performance this season, it’s pretty clear that the Texans can’t handle the Ravens’ offense and likely can’t win a shootout if it comes to that.
If fans want the easiest path to Super Bowl LIV, Houston is the team to root for this weekend.
