An important change on Wednesday to COVID-19 protocols took place through an agreement between the NFL and NFLPA.
Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reported the standard isolation period after a positive test for asymptomatic individuals from 10 days to five days regardless of vaccination status.
The agreement includes both vaccinated and unvaccinated players and is contingent on the player being asymptomatic.
The change in protocols was made in accordance with new guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Note that return to play isn't contingent on being asymptomatic. You need:
– 5 days since initial positive swab
– At least 24 hours since last fever
– Other symptoms (e.g. cough) "resolved or improved"
– Cleared by team doctor in consultation with ICS and NFL— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) December 28, 2021
Other notes:
* Unvaccinated individuals still subject to five-day quarantine for high-risk close contact
* Meetings only allowed outdoors or distanced in practice bubble
* Mandatory masks indoors for all
* Max 15 players in weight room
* No eating together
