The NFL made a pair of announcements on Wednesday, one having to do with roster cut rules and the other with the 2022 salary cap ceiling.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the NFL and NFLPA have agreed to a 2022 salary cap ceiling of $208.2 million, which would be $10 million higher than the $198.2 million it is at for 2021.
Pelissero notes that the final figure won’t be settled officially until February 2022 and that it could land below $208.2 million “depending on revenue projections,” but for now that is the goal.
Another important thing to point out is that the salary cap is expected to see a major boost in 2023 and in the years to follow because of media and gambling deals.
The final salary cap won't be set until February, and it could land below $208.2M in 2022 depending on revenue projections. But this is a step back in the right direction, with major cash from new media deals, gambling, etc., expected to spike the cap in 2023 and beyond. https://t.co/8h8cYjjf1d

With the players currently under contract for 2022, the Titans have about $176.5 million in contract commitments for next season, according to Spotrac, giving them a shade under $32 million to work with.
More immediately, the league has also made changes to how roster cuts will go for this coming season.
In 2020, teams had 80 players on their training camp rosters due to COVID-19, with two roster cutdowns, one to 80 players on Aug. 16, and then to 53 players on Sept. 5.
This year, training camp rosters will feature 90 players and will see three cutdowns, one to 85 players on Aug. 17, one to 80 players on Aug. 24, and then a final cut to 53 on Aug. 31, which is almost two weeks before the Titans’ season-opener against the Arizona Cardinals.
NFL owners just approved a 90-man roster to start training camp this year, source said, with cuts to 85 on Aug. 17, 80 on Aug. 24 and 53 on Aug. 31.
