Everything that could go wrong did for Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens. As the Steelers top receiver, there’s plenty of pressure on him to perform, and he fell flat on Saturday. But this is nothing new as Pickens has been a headache for much of the year and head coach Mike Tomlin seems to be enabling this behavior.
This is something former NFL player Shannon Sharpe has noticed as well and he put Tomlin and Pickens on blast on Saturday night on his YouTube channel.
Sharpe called out Tomlin for allowing Pickens’ behavior and not holding his feet to the fire for his work ethic and how this translates to performance. He also throws out an Antonio Brown comparison which is hard to deny.
Then Sharpe turned his attention directly to Pickens.
“George Pickens basically lost them the game tonight because he was awful, Sharpe said. “He was awful.”
“I think this game should force George Pickens to evaluate himself…he dropped everything. Those balls were in his hands and he dropped them. He goes into a funk, he can’t pull himself out. You know why? He’s not strong enough up here yet.”
