NFL insider told Caleb Williams’ camp that Bears would be great fit

Jay Glazer told Caleb Williams’ camp why they should want to go to Bears: “If you win in Chicago…you’ll be forever golden in that city.”

When you consider the different situations for projected No. 1 pick Caleb Williams to land, the Chicago Bears have to be one of the better — if not best — spots for the rookie.

There’s been plenty of speculation, rumors and discussion about whether Williams wants to play for the Bears. To be fair, he doesn’t really have a choice (unless he backs Chicago into a corner). But any talk of Williams not wanting to play for the Bears remains pure speculation at this point.

FOX insider Jay Glazer revealed he had discussions with Williams’ camp about why Chicago would be a great fit for the rookie.

“I told his people, you have a chance to go to Chicago, go to Chicago,” Glazer said, via NBC Sports Chicago. “If you win in Chicago, they will erect bridges for you, streets for you, tunnels for you. Are you kidding me? You’ll be forever golden in that city, and it’s a great city.

“You want to go to a place like Chicago. How would you not want to go to a place like Chicago? Chicago is one of those rare places, man, where you have a chance to change your life forever by being engrained in that city.”

There’s no doubt if Williams is able to finally break the Bears’ quarterback curse — and leads them to the promised land — he will be immortalized in Chicago.

But outside of that, the Bears as a current situation would be a favorable spot for Williams. Usually, the team picking first overall finished as the worst team in the league. That isn’t true for Chicago, who inherited the No. 1 pick from the Carolina Panthers.

The Bears have a talented, ascending defense, weapons on offense plus an addition first-round pick to put Williams in a position to succeed immediately. They’re armed with a new offensive coordinator in Shane Waldron, who runs a system Williams is familiar with, along with some weapons in DJ Moore and Cole Kmet.

It’s true Chicago hasn’t developed a quarterback in decades, and no one would blame Williams and his camp from being a little hesitant. But general manager Ryan Poles is intent on building this team the right away, including around his quarterback of choice — which very well could wind up being Williams.
