NFL Honors 2021: Derrick Henry wins AP Offensive Player of the Year

Henry is the second Titans player to win the award, and the fourth in franchise history.

Tennessee Titans running back Derrick Henry has been named the Associated Press Offensive Player of the Year at the NFL Honors show on Saturday night.

Henry more than earned the award after breaking the 2,000-yard mark in 2020, becoming the eighth player in NFL history to do so. His 2,027 yards are the fifth-most in a single season in league history.

While Henry has already received honors from different outlets, this is by far the biggest of the bunch. He is the second player in Titans history to take home the award, with running back Chris Johnson being the other.

In total, four players in franchise history have received the honor, as both quarterback Warren Moon (1990) and running back Earl Campbell (1978, 1979, 1980) won it during the Houston Oilers days.

The Alabama product won his second straight rushing title in the process, and he won the so-called “triple crown” at the position by notching the most rushing yards, touchdowns (17) and attempts (378) among backs.

Henry’s huge season comes on the heels of the Titans signing him to a four-year, $50 million deal last offseason.

And, after all that he has accomplished, and with his status as the heart and soul of the Titans’ offense, it’s clear that King Henry has been worth every penny.
