NFL Free Agency: Rashaad Penny to sign with Eagles

Free agency is well underway this week and the Seattle Seahawks have lost another player. Running back Rashaad Penny has agreed to terms with the reigning NFC Champion Philadelphia Eagles. Penny joins linebacker Cody Barton, who signed with the Commanders, as two notable departures from Seattle to the NFC East.

Originally the No. 27 overall pick in the 2018 Draft, the Seahawks made Penny the third running back in franchise history selected in the first round. A rare combination of speed and size, Penny was meant to revitalize a non-existent ground game from 2017.

Regrettably, injuries have mostly derailed Penny’s tantalizing potential. When able to stay on the field, Penny had a few solid moments, such as his 151 yard rushing performance in Week 4 against the Detroit Lions where he scored two touchdowns. Or when he went off for 129 yards and a touchdown against the very same Eagles in Week 12 of the 2019 season.

Unfortunately, Penny’s 2022 season was cut short the week following the Lions game as he broke his fibula against the Saints. If Penny is able to regain and maintain his health he should make for an interesting piece in Philadelphia’s dominant rushing attack.
