NFL free agency: Colts announce Philip Rivers signing

The Colts gave Philip Rivers a lucrative one-year deal.

One of the last remaining high-profile free agent quarterbacks is officially off the market, as the Indianapolis Colts announced Saturday that the team has agreed to a deal with former Chargers QB Philip Rivers.

Rivers, who will turn 39 this December, has played his entire career with the Chargers, and made eight Pro Bowl teams, most recently in 2018. Rivers had a down year in 2019 as the Chargers went 5-11, but he had been considered the clear favorite to land in Indianapolis this offseason.

According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Rivers’ deal is for one year at $25 million. With the new deal, Rivers will be a top-12 quarterback in terms of average annual value, making the same per year as new Bucs quarterback Tom Brady.
