NFL Films to fly Chiefs’ flag for the 2020 NFL season

A special privilege only given to Super Bowl champions.

The Kansas City Chiefs won’t get to see their own Super Bowl banner raised until early September. The team has received another honor related to Super Bowl LIV where they get to see a flag with their signature Arrowhead emblem fly.

NFL Films headquarters in Mount Laurel Township, New Jersey has a tradition they take part in every year following the conclusion of the Super Bowl. Whichever team is crowned Super Bowl champion gets to see their flag fly at NFL Films HQ beside both the NFL Films flag and the American flag. The Chiefs flag is set to be flown for the entirety of the upcoming season.

NFL Network’s Brian Baldinger shared a video of the flags and he also shared some information about the tradition.

If this is a tradition that has been done since NFL Films was founded by Ed and Steve Sabol in 1962, the Chiefs have now seen their flag fly twice. If it’s a relatively new tradition, this would mark the first time the Chiefs have seen their flag hoisted at the NFL Films HQ.

It’s a cool token of gratitude that NFL Films shows toward the reigning Super Bowl champions. As the Chiefs seek to defend their Super Bowl title in 2020, it should serve as another reminder of just how tough it is to the big game and win it.
