A team with Kyle Shanahan on its coaching staff blew a lead in the Super Bowl.
The last time he was in the big game, Shanahan was the offensive coordinator of the Atlanta Falcons, who had a 28-3 lead in Super Bowl LI over the New England Patriots … and ended up losing in overtime.
This time, he’s the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, and in Super Bowl LIV, he had a 20-10 lead going into the fourth quarter … and his team ended up losing 31-20.
Here’s a sampling of the reaction from Twitter, and yes, there are a lot of 28-3 jokes:
28 + 3 = 31

Kyle Shanahan sat on the ball because he wanted to be tied at halftime.
He's now down late in the 4th quarter.
ALWAYS try to put up points.
The current score is NEVER good enough. https://t.co/rpa0Mu0aRI
