NFL decision-makers like to get what they pay for. And in Rodney Hudson, there is no denying his value. It’s the reason more than once in his career, he’s been the highest-paid at his position. Including currently, earning an average of $11.25 million per season on a three-year extension he signed just prior to the start of last season.
The Raiders certainly think he’s worth it. So too, apparently, do the majority of executives across the league, according to a new poll from ESPN.
The poll is of interior offensive linemen, and the top center listed was Hudson. He is sixth overall behind five guards. Said of Hudson:
“He’s really quick off the ball, and he’s played a lot of football,” an NFC exec said.
“If you’ve been around him and watched him work, prepare, and how physical he is in person, he’s high on your list without question,” said one NFL assistant coach.
Other centers listed below Hudson include 3-time All-Pro Jason Kelce (8), Ryan Kelly (9), and Maurkice Pouncey (10).
I’ve long said Hudson is the best center in the NFL. He hasn’t given up a sack in two seasons and anchors one of the best offensive lines in football. And yet he’s never been an All-Pro. He has been named to three Pro Bowl teams.
