Florida defensive tackle [autotag]Zachary Carter[/autotag] is one of four former Gators expected to hear his name called at the 2022 NFL draft in Las Vegas this weekend. He announced back in December that he would declare for the draft and opted out of Florida’s bowl game versus UCF in the Gasparilla Bowl.
Carter was a four-star recruit out of Tampa, Florida, in the 2017 recruiting class. The 247Sports composite ranked him as the 130th overall player and the third-best strong-side defensive end.
It took him until his sophomore season to be a reliable contributor for the Gators. He started every game of his senior season at defensive tackle except for the bowl game that he opted out of. Carter recorded 31 tackles, 11.5 for a loss, 7.5 sacks and forced one fumble.
NFL.com expects Carter to hear his name called early on Day 3 in the fourth round. They believe he can be a good backup with the potential to become a starter.
