NFL and Oakley developing face shields for helmets to protect players

It’s being developed as an alternative to players wearing cloth masks inside their facemasks

In the ongoing effort to get back into action and still protect the players in the time of COVID-19, the NFL is trying out the idea of a face shield on the facemask of the helmet.

The NFL is working with Oakley on developing a protective shield that covers the mouth. It’s an alternative to a cloth mask for players. The prototype is the same concept as the visor eye shield, which Oakley already manufactures for helmets approved for use in the NFL.

Per Yahoo Sports, the Rams and Chargers are testing the shields. They are made of the same type of plastic as the visors and include slits for air holes to help facilitate airflow.
