The Washington Huskies appear to be in good hands with coach Jedd Fisch at the helm, especially on the offensive side of the ball. After former offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb took the same position with the Seattle Seahawks, a drop off from 2023’s No. 2 passing and No. 12 overall offense is to be expected.
However, Fisch’s offense appears to be a great fit to keep Washington’s high-powered offense alive. Last season, the Arizona Wildcats finished with the No. 8 passing and No. 20 overall offense as Fisch’s team impressed all season long and climbed up to No. 11 in the final installment of the AP’s rankings.
On Sunday, while watching film of former Arizona running back Michael Wiley for NFL Draft content, NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein took to X (formerly Twitter) to commend Fisch for his usage of the senior running back who suffered an injury in 2023 but managed to accrue 2,862 total yards and scored 28 touchdowns during his time in Tucson.
“I’m watching Michael Wiley and just wanted to tell you that I love the misdirection and screen stuff you guys created out of the backfield,” Zierlein wrote after tagging Fisch. “Really creative.”
After Zierlein’s initial post, ESPN’s Louis Riddick responded.
Agreed X100 Lance. Jed had one of the most diverse/multiple offenses in all of football in ‘23. https://t.co/97VVh27RP5

Riddick’s post spurned a back and forth between the analysts, with Zierlein responding, “It was a lot of fun to watch!”
“I’ve watched some, but once you start studying for draft stuff, you get to dig up the gems,” he continued. “This stuff is better than most of what I’ve seen in all of college this year. Grubb’s passing scheme at Washington was spectacular too.”
Finally, Zierlein was asked to compare Fisch’s scheme to Ryan Grubb and Kalen DeBoer’s, where he highlighted a few key differences.
Different. Grubb created stress with his route combinations and focused on the intermediate and deep passing game. Jedd likes to create confusion and misdirection out of formations, personnel groupings and misdirection. Jedd's is less reliant upon premium talent.
