With just over a week to go until the 2022 NFL draft, one former UNC football quarterback is hoping he can find himself as a first-round pick.
Former quarterback [autotag]Sam Howell[/autotag] opted to leave UNC after three seasons and enter this 2022 NFL draft. It’s not a strong draft class for quarterbacks and there are a lot of question marks about the prospects at the position, including Howell.
But lately, Howell’s stock appears to be slipping and most mock drafts don’t even have him in the first round.
One NFL draft analyst is changing that tune and wrote on Monday that he’s hearing buzz that Howell going into the first round will be one of the bigger surprises come draft night. Former NFL scout and Reese’s Senior Bowl executive Jim Nagy tweeted this about Howell on Monday:
Based on convos with NFL scouts during pro-day season, Sam Howell sneaking into late first round is one of likely surprises of Day 1. https://t.co/z8CsY8zR79

Nagy has been around the game for a long time as a scout and is familiar with a lot of these players. So what he says could be true.
I guess we will find out in about a week whether or not Howell is a first-round pick.
