Alex Smith has made a courageous rehab from a life-threatening injury but he’ll be the backup quarterback in Washington after Ron Rivera named Dwayne Haskins the starter for Week 1 against the Philadelphia Eagles.

As a rookie, Haskins had an up-and-down season but he’ll have Terry McLaurin at his disposal to help speed up his learning curve.

In his lone matchup with the Eagles last year, the 2019 Week 15 matchup, The Ohio State product completed 19 of 28 passes for 261 yards and two touchdowns in a 37-27 loss to Philadelphia.
